Beyond the test.
Real-world driving.
Pass Plus is a government-recognised scheme that takes your driving beyond the basics of your test — covering motorways, rural roads, night driving, and more. And it could help reduce your car insurance.
The complete post-test
driving programme
Pass Plus is a practical training course designed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) for newly qualified drivers. It was created because the standard driving test only scratches the surface of real-world driving conditions.
The course covers six modules — including motorway driving, dual carriageways, adverse weather, night driving, rural roads, and town centre driving — giving you comprehensive, real-world experience in conditions you weren't exposed to during your lessons.
What Pass Plus covers
Town Driving
Busy urban environments, complex junctions, pedestrian areas, and city centre navigation.
All-Weather Driving
Rain, reduced visibility, wet roads, and understanding the differences in stopping distances and grip.
Motorways
Joining, exiting, lane discipline, smart motorways, and driving at sustained higher speeds.
Night Driving
Reading the road in reduced visibility, headlight usage, speed management at night.
Dual Carriageways
Overtaking, fast-moving traffic, large vehicles, and maintaining safe following distances.
Rural Roads
Single-track lanes, farm vehicles, unexpected hazards, and lower-visibility country driving.
Could reduce your
car insurance
Many major insurers offer discounts to new drivers who hold a Pass Plus certificate. As a newly qualified driver, your insurance premium is likely to be high — Pass Plus is one of the few ways to offset that cost from day one.
Savings vary by insurer. We recommend checking your insurer's Pass Plus discount before booking to maximise the financial benefit. In many cases, the saving exceeds the course cost within the first year.
